Roundton Hill is a rounded, steep sided hill in that easternmost part of old Montgomeryshire which juts into the English border near Churchstoke. From the summit it's easy to see why there was once an Iron Age hillfort here - the vantage point offers great views across the surrounding countryside. Entrances to mines in search of lead and barites plunge deep into the hill, and are today used as a roost for a number of bat species. Having avoided the plough, the hill's steep rocky slopes still support plants such as the mountain pansy, which has long since disappeared from most of the hills in mid-Wales.
